Hanson Meekins Animal Hospital has been serving the Bay Area since 1976. Dr. Hanson came to Coos Bay in 1975 and bought a building that was “zoned just right”. This shack became the first Hanson Animal Hospital. After a nice red paint job, Dr. Hanson practiced for 20 years in that building as the sole practitioner. She called it “the little red building with a warm heart” and was always voted “the most popular vet in town”. With a lot of hard work and devotion, the clinic has grown over the years. In 1994 Dr. Meekins joined Dr. Hanson and in 2000 they became partners. In 2004 another red building was built and formed what is now Hanson-Meekins Animal Hospital. We are currently a very busy 3 Doctor Practice.

Roxy Elliot, DVM

Dr. Roxy Elliot is an Associate Veterinarian with over 10 years at Hanson-Meekins.

Born and raised in Minnesota, she traded the snow and cold weather for the hot, dry, Arizona desert where she owned and operated a successful massage therapy practice and developed an interest in complementary therapies and integrative medicine.  After almost a decade, despite enjoying a rewarding massage therapy career, she followed her passion of working with animals, migrated to the Pacific Northwest, and attended Washington State University to earn her DVM degree.   Dr. Roxy enjoys the daily variety and unique challenges of veterinary medicine and sought to find a way to bring her love of complementary therapies into her practice, pursued additional training in chiropractic care and is a certified animal chiropractor.  She is excited about how chiropractic therapy benefits her patients and improves their quality of life.

In her free time, Dr. Roxy enjoys music, reading, being out in nature with her camera or rock hunting at the beach, has been a potter for over 20 years, and loves creating works of art in clay.  Dr. Roxy, loves all species of animals, holding a special passion for all things feline, and shares her home with four lively cats, and a Desert Box Turtle.
